SHREVEPORT,LA. (By Tom Pace, Executive Editor, Talk of the Town) 1.25.08 While the temperatures hover around the freezing mark all day this Friday, mixed winter precipitation can be expected throughout the afternoon across the Ark-La-Tex, thus prompting the Winter Weather Advisory to be extended:
The National Weather Service in Shreveport has extended the Winter Weather Advisory until 6 pm cst this Friday evening, January 25th, 2008.
Rain…freezing rain…and sleet at times will result in ice accumulation on
bridges and overpasses and elevated surfaces this afternoon … Resulting in
slippery and hazardous conditions…generally along & north of a Quitman to
Waskom Texas & Shreveport…Ringgold…Chatham…Monroe, Louisiana line.Temperatures near and below freezing this afternoon…along with a large
and expanding area of precipitation consisting of freezing rain and sleet at
times…will result in light accumulations and cause travel problems.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of sleet…or freezing rain will
cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities.
Use caution while driving. Bridges and overpasses will be the first places that
ice will develop. Maintain a steady speed when crossing elevated surfaces
and do not brake suddenly. Until temperatures climb above freezing later into
the day assume that surfaces can ice over..
