Early Presidential Primary Voting, House District #6 Election, begin today in Caddo Parish

SHREVEPORT, LA (By: Tom Pace, Executive Editor, “Talk of the Town: 1-26-08     If you want to vote early in the February 9th , State of Louisiana Presidential Preference Primary, then you have the next week, thru February 2nd, to do so.

Voters beware! The February 9th Election for Presidential Preference Primary has a confusing element to it, because the La. House District #6 election, will be an “Open Primary Election”, held on the same day. That’s according to Ernie Roberson, Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters. Roberson says, “Voters, regardless of their party affiliation, will be eligible to vote in the Dist #6 Special Election.”

“However, the Presidential Preference Primary, also the same day, the same time, the same polling place, will be a Closed Primary,” says Roberson, “That means, Democrats vote only on a Democratic Presidential Candidate, while Republicans, will vote on a Republican Presidential Candidate only,” he said.

“Voters who are ‘Other Party’, or ‘No Party’, WILL NOT BE ABLE to vote in the Presidential Preference Primary,” said Roberson, “but, they WILL BE ELIGIBLE, to vote on local elections,” he concluded. (If you remember, House District #6 Representative Mike Powell resigned, making the District #6 Election necessary.)
