It was a bittersweet day for Shreveport Police Chief Henry Whitehorn, as he announced the promotion of Cheryl Jeter as the City’s first female Assistant Chief of Police…he also announced that 30 year veteran SPD Assistant Chief Glenn Schach was retiring on Thursday, April 17th, 2008..
Schach thanked all of his fellow officers, and praised them for their hard work. In a One-on-One interview with Tom Pace from “The Talk of the Town” Schach reflected on his career with SPD, and his thoughts about Jeter being promoted as the 1st Female Assistant Chief of Police.

Shreveport Police Captain Cheryl Jeter was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police this Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 in an afternoon Promotions Ceremony in Shreveport, Louisiana. With the promotion, Jeter becomes the first female assistant Chief of Police for the City.
Following her badge-pinning ceremony, Jeter answered questions from Tom Pace from “The Talk of the Town” and other media…mainly about what it means to be the first Assistant Chief of Police for Shreveport.

In a late morning news conference Monday, april 14th, 2008, held in front of the new SPD Red River District facility, Mayor Cedric Glover annnounced the joint funding effort for the project between the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), the El Dorado Resort Casino Shreveport, and the City of Shreveport.
Addressing the media were Mayor Glover; Shreveport Councilman Monte Wolford; SPD Chief Henry Whitehorn; Exec. Dir. of the DDA, Don Shea; El Dorado Representative Leslie Peck and others involved in the development and implementation of this latest facility to insure enhanced security in the Central Business District.
El Dorado donated the building space, while DDA contributed $25K to build it out, and Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR) provided manpower and materials to remodel the space.
Glover praised the joint effort saying, “This is a good example of the effectiveness of public/private partnerships.”

Caddo Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Eddie Brossette is now officially in the Caddo Judge’s race to replace retired Judge Charles Scott, for Section Two of the First Judicial District of Caddo Parish.
In an exclusive one-on-one interview, Monday, April 14th, 2008, Brossette told Tom Pace with “The Talk of the Town” he feels this is the direction he’s now being called to serve, at this time in his life. He’s been an ADA for the past 10 years.
The vacancy for Chief Judge Charles Scott’s seat on the bench came about when Scott resigned back on Febraury 29th, to enter the race for Caddo District Attorney.
The Caddo Parish election is set for October 4th, 2008.

Saturday, April 12th at 2pm marked “A going Away Party” for 16 month old Ethan Powell, who lost his battle with an aggresive form of leukemia one week ago.
Following a Celebration of Ethan Powell’s Life memorial service at University Church of Shrist, in Shreveport, Louisiana…there was a balloon launch, as hundreds of blue balloons were released by Ethan’s family and friends from the church parking lot.
Afterwards, Ethan’s grandfather, Larry Powell told of his love of Ethan, and what his life meant to the family, and the world…then Ethan’s dad, Ben spoke with Pace, about young Ethan’s mission on earth, and what her remmebers about his only-child.

Bossier Parish Community College held “A Celebration of Ethan’s Life” memorial event this Friday, April 11th, 2008. Following a launch of hundreds of blue balloons from the school’s Quadrangle area, BPCC Chancellor Tom Carleton spoke with Tom Pace from “The Talk of the Town” about today’s ceremony.
Chancellor Carleton talks about young Ethan, who passed away Saturday, April 5th, 2008 at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Ethan was the grandson of BPCC’s Telecommunications Director, Larry Powell. Carleton was visibly moved by Ethan’s passing (He was 16 months old).
Former NASA Astronaut, Duane “Digger” Carey met with Tom Pace from “The Talk of the Town” Tuesday, April 8th, 2008, for an EXCLUSIVE One-on-One podcast interview on www.ShreveTalk.com. Digger Carey is in Shreveport, Louisiana for a special appearance and lecture at Sci-Port Discovery Center Friday 6p-8p.
