Legendary NFL & Grambling State QB Shack Harris is one-half of the Shack Harris-Doug Williams Foundation, that makes donations to wothwhile area charities in the Shreveport-Bossier community.  

Friday, May 30th, Tom Pace of “The Talk of the Town” interviewed Harris about their Foundation’s donation today of 11 computers and other equipment to the Community Renewal Friendship Houses in the Barksdale Annex of Bossier City. 

Harris, VP of Player Development for the NFL’;s Jacksonville Jaguars, also talked Pro Football with Pace – about the possibility of the Jags making another run at the NFL Superbowl Championship.

Will Hillary stay in the race for the Democratic presidential race with Obama? Tom Pace of “The Talk of the Town” conducted a most compelling and candid  nine-minute “One-on-One” interview with Sen. Mary Landrieu about the upcoming final three primaries remaining for the Democrats.

The Louisiana Senior Senator talks about the “dysfunctional” Democratic Party..as well as who she thinks will face Republican John McCain in the fall presidential election. 

Landrieu also talks candidly with Pace about what she believes are the chances for Barksdale to be named as the permanent headquarters for Cyber Command.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator with Tom Pace on College Safety Course for High School Grads 5-31-08

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator is offering a one-day College Safety Course June 5th, for college-bound students ages 17 to 21.  Prator spoke “One-on-One” with Tom Pace from “The Talk iof the Town” on what the course covers.

Prator said participating students will receive information on campus security, self defense, personal safety, dating violence, identity theft, safe driving, drug awareness, personal finances, mental health awareness, and internet safety.

The program is from 9 am until 4 pm, Thursday, June 5, 2008, at the Caddo Correctional Center

There is no charge for the course, but seating is limited.


NFL Legend Doug Williams with Tom Pace on 3rd Annual Celebrity Golf Classic at Southern Trace 6-2-08

Grambling State University star quarterback, and former NFL Superbowl MVP Doug Williams spoke “One-on-One” with Tom Pace from “The Talk of the Town” Friday, May 30th, 2008 at the Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, in Bossier City, Louisiana. 

Williams talked with Pace about the “Shack Harris and Doug Williams Foundation” which provides grants for after-school initiatives, leadership development, mentoring programs and minority higher education assistance. Tom and Doug also talked some LSU football (Jacob Hester &
Matt Flynn going Pro) and who he likes for this year’s Superbowl.

Williams is in town this weekend with another former Grambling star football quarterback, James “Shack” Harris, as they host their 3rd Annual Celebrity Golf Classic this Monday, June 2nd, at Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Reed Dickens with Tom Pace on VP Candidates for McCain & Obama 5-24-08

Former Assistant Press Secretary to President George Bush & LSU-S Grad, Reed Dickens predicts that La. Governor Bobby Jindal may be a bit young to be Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s running-mate.

Dickens was a special guest by phone from Long Beach, California with Tom Pace on his “Talk of the Town” radio show, broadcast live, on SuperTalk 1340, KRMD on Saturday, May 24th, 2008.    

During the 30 minute interview with Pace, Dickens elaborated on the Clinton-Obama race for the Democrats…and listed who he thought would be potential VP candidates for Barack Obama and John McCain.
He told Pace he doesn’t think the “dream ticket” of Obama with Hillary Clinton for VP would happen…adding his thoughts about the John McCain
VP candidate would have to have immediate name recognition & respect.

Chancellor Tom Carleton News Conference on BPCC Cyber Center for Excellence, 5-29-08

Thursday, May 29th, 2008, Bossier Parish Community College Chancellor Tom Carleton announced at an afternoon news conference, BPCC has been designated to become the “Cyber Center for Excellence” for the state of Louisiana. 

Carleton was accompanied by a large group of VIP’s along with local and state officials, including Jim Henderson, Senior Vice-President for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System for the State. 

Carleton conducted the 30 minute news conference, referring to various individuals to elaborate on the implemention of BPCC’s new Cyber Center curriculum and building.

Bossier Parish Community College will house of the state’s “Cyber Center for Excellence” on campus, starting in the spring of 2009, said BPCC Chancellor Tom Carleton in a news conference Thursday, May 29th, 2008.

Jim Henderson, Senior Vice-President for the Louisiana Community and Technical College System stood beside Carleton, adding his comments on behalf of the Governor, during the 30 minute presentation. 

Henderson spoke “One-on-One” with Tom Pace from “The Talk of the Town” and www.ShreveTalk.com , telling Pace this Center plays a very big part in Governor Bobby Jindal’s initiatives for this year.    

The Cyber Center for Excellence at BPCC will implement five new degree programs, and one certificate program in the newly-designed Cyber Information Technology Division. 

According to Carleton, students will be able to take classes starting this fall.

US Sen. Mary Landrieu Speaks to Shreveport’s Downtown Rotary Club on Cyber Command and More 5-27-08

12 Year congressional veteran, Senator Mary Landrieu  spoke to the Downtown Rotary Club of Shreveport, Louisiana, Tuesday, May 27th, 2008. 

Sen. Landrieu was introduced by Downtown Shreveport Rotary Club President Tom Arceneaux.

In her 30 minute speech to Rotary members and guests, the Senior Senator from Louisiana covered several topics: from the skyrocketing gasoline prices, to the environment, and an update on locating the permanent home for Cyber Command at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City.  (And not to forget Louisiana’s potential loss of 4 of our seven members of Congress)
On the future of the Pentagon and Air Force giving the green-light to Barksdale to stand-up the permanent command there, Landrieu said she believes, “…it’s within reach.”

“Angels, The Musical” Producer Marcus Cheong: $20M Broadway Production Premieres at Strand Theatre

(Shreveport, LA) 5-27-08  Angels The Musical, a multi-million dollar theatrical production on its way to Broadway, announced today that it will rehearse and have its United States premiere at The Strand Theatre in Shreveport.


“Louisiana presented us with an incredible opportunity with the passing of a tax incentive for theatre and live performing arts productions,” said Angels’ producer Marcus Cheong.  Cheong talked with Tom Pace from “The Talk of the Town” and Jan Elkins of KTBS-TV3, about the Southern hospitality, and the opportunity to launch their national tour from Shreveport, Louisiana.

“We had been considering venues to rehearse and preview the show before opening on Broadway when we learned about the state’s new legislation.  This will not only save us money, but it will give us an opportunity to help build Louisiana’s theatre industry and the state’s economy as a whole,” said Cheong.
“What better place to start (the U.S. premiere of Angels) than at the official state theater of Louisiana—The Strand Theatre?” Cheong said.

There were VIP’s and Media Folks everywhere you looked: a peelin’ and eatin’ crawfish in the 25th Annual Mudbug Madness Media/VIP Crawfish Eatin’ Contest at Festival Plaza at high noon, in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana, Thursday, May 22nd, 2008. Tom Pace with “The Talk of the Town”, narrated the countdown to the finish on this podcast report, and then spoke with the winner, Derek James from Cumulus Radio’s KRMD-FM.

Derek took First Place with the fastest time in eating five pounds of cooked mudbugs (about 3 minutes!) then followed by Trooper J, of Skyline DJ Services in Second Place; with a close Third Place finish by Chris Evans of Gap Broadcasting’s Kiss Country FM; and rounding out the Fourth Place title, newly promoted  Shreveport Assistant Police Chief Wayne Smith.
